Japanese wakizashi from the Edo Period, 18th or 19th century.
The wakizashi is known as the katana or Japanese sword with a nagasa (blade) of 1 to 2 shaku (1 shaku is approximately 30.3 cm). The total size is 55 cm and the nagasa is 40.5 cm.
This wakizashi has a tsuba (guard) of openwork design and two seppa. The tsuka (handle) is made up of the same (ray skin), the original ito (braided) and two menuki (ornamental pieces) that represent a monkey. Both the fuchi (metal piece above the tsuba) and the kashira (top cap) are ornamented.
It does not have a saya (scabbard).
