Japan. Cavalry sake bowl or Sakazuki, 54 mm
The sake cup (sakazuki) featuring military motifs was a common item in ceremonies of the Imperial Japanese Army during the 1930s and WW2. The army itself commissioned these cups to promote national spirit, but they were also frequently purchased by soldiers for use in farewell ceremonies, welcome-back events for returning troops, and even by kamikaze pilots before their final flight.
