Japan. WW2 Order of the Rising Sun, 5th Clas
With its original lacquered wooden presentation box. The box bears the inscription “勳五等雙光旭日章” (5th Class of the Order of the Rising Sun) in silver lettering, a feature characteristic of examples manufactured during the Second World War.
It also includes the lapel rosette.
The Order of the Rising Sun was instituted on April 10, 1875, by Emperor Meiji as part of the process of modernization of the Japanese state and with the aim of creating an honor system comparable to those of Western powers. It was awarded to recognize distinguished service to the Empire in both military and civilian fields, including merits in public administration, the Imperial Japanese Army, the Imperial Japanese Navy, and national development. The order still exists today, although it now has only six classes, compared to the eight classes of the earlier period.
