Poland. People’s Republic of Poland. Medal of Merit in the Protection of Public Order. Silver version. Established by decision of the Government of October 15, 1971, to honor people who contributed to the maintenance of public order or demonstrated courage and sacrifice or distinguished themselves in the performance of their duties to maintain public order. Awarded in three grades: gold, silver and bronze by the prime minister on the proposal of the interior minister. It could also be conferred on institutions and organizations. The medal was intended primarily for members of the Civic Militia (equivalent to police forces in other countries) and the Security Service.
