United Kingdom. British India M1907 Mk. III bayonet manufactured in March 1944.
The blade bears the marking «G.R.I.» (Georgius Rex Imperator, Emperor of India until 1947) with the royal crown and «3 44» for March 1944, along with «R.F.I.» (Rifle Factory Ishapore). The «Mk. II» marking is a common error on Indian-made bayonets, as this is in fact a Mk. III, distinguishable by its squared pommel. On the other side of the blade, there are three «IS» acceptance stamps from the Ishapore factory.
The scabbard is marked «M/44» by J.B. Brooks & Co. Ltd. and «W.J.H. B M/121» by W.J. Hill Ltd.
These bayonets were produced to fit the large numbers of SMLE No. 1 rifles manufactured at Ishapore.
Bayonet length: 45.4 cm
Length without scabbard: 42.2 cm
Blade length: 30.4 cm
