Spain. Saber of the City of Barcelona. Model 1920.
Manufactured by Castells, Barcelona, with serial number 17 on the sheath.
Guard: Made of alpaca, the guard of this saber follows the design of 19th-century military sabers, with a remarkable effort to imitate its features, achieving undeniable elegance. The pommel is presented in a stylized and meticulously decorated manner, while the quillons at the front stand out for their beauty, among which is the shield of the City of Barcelona, crowned, enamelled, and surrounded by laurels and palm branches. The hilt is made of exquisite ebony wood, complemented by a finely crafted ferrule with engraving and punching.
Blade: Of Puerto Seguro type, with a straight and upturned tip, it features a squared back on the inside and a sharp edge on the outside. Along the back, there are hollowed-out sections leading to the blade tip, and a channel runs along the last part of the back.
Scabbard: Made of nickel-plated iron, the scabbard features a ferrule and a clasp with a ring, along with a lira-shaped chape.
This type of saber was especially used by officers of the Municipal Guard, particularly during festive events when wearing the ceremonial uniform.
Total length: 97 cm.
Length without scabbard: 93.5 cm.
Blade length: 79 cm.
