South Africa. Southern Africa Medal.
The Southern Africa Medal is a military campaign medal instituted by the Republic of South Africa in 1987. It was awarded to members of the South African Defence Force for service in military operations in Southern Africa, outside the borders of South Africa and South West Africa, between April 1, 1976, and March 21, 1990.
The SADF is said to have taken one of the captured T-55 tanks and melted it down to make these medals.
