The Commemorative Medal «In Commemoration of the 1500th Anniversary of Kyiv» (Russian: Юбилейная медаль «В память 1500-летия Киева») was instituted on 10 May 1982 to commemorate the 1500th anniversary of the founding of Kyiv, one of the oldest and most important cities of the Soviet Union.
It was awarded to workers, scientists, artists, military personnel, and other citizens who had made significant contributions to the city’s economic, scientific, cultural, or social development, as well as to veterans who participated in the defence of Kyiv during the Great Patriotic War.
