The Commemorative Medal «In Commemoration of the 250th Anniversary of Leningrad» (Russian: Юбилейная медаль «В память 250-летия Ленинграда») was instituted on 16 May 1957 to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the founding of Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg), celebrated that same year.
It was awarded to workers, scientists, artists, military personnel, and other citizens who had made significant contributions to the city’s economic, scientific, cultural, or social development, as well as to veterans who participated in its defence during the Great Patriotic War.
