Soviet Union USSR. Degtyaryov DP-28 ammunition box.
The Degtyaryov DP-28 was a Soviet light machine gun designed by Vasily Degtyaryov and adopted in 1928. It used the 7.62×54 mmR cartridge and was gas-operated, with a rate of fire of about 550 rounds per minute. It was characterized by its distinctive 47-round top-mounted pan magazine, which earned it the nickname “record player” among soldiers.
The DP-28 was the standard infantry support weapon of the Red Army during World War II, also taking part in the Winter War against Finland. Although it was replaced after the war by more modern models such as the RPD and PK, it continued to appear in later conflicts in the hands of Soviet allies.
It was also used in the Spanish Civil War among the Soviet aid sent to the Republic.
