Soviet Union (USSR). Excellent Artillery Badge, 1950s
The «Excellent Artillery» badge (in Russian: Отличный артиллерист) was a military distinction established on May 21, 1942, as part of a series of merit badges awarded to enlisted soldiers and non-commissioned officers of the Red Army during World War II.
Version manufactured during the 50s.
This badge was awarded to soldiers who demonstrated outstanding technical skills, exemplary discipline, and bravery in fulfilling their duties within field, anti-tank, or anti-aircraft artillery units. It served both as a personal honor and as an incentive to military excellence.
The badge is made of enameled metal. At the top is a red star with the hammer and sickle, a symbol of Soviet communism. In the center, two crossed cannons are depicted, directly referencing the artillery corps. At the top appears the inscription in Russian: «Отличный артиллерист», which translates to “Excellent Artillery”.
