Soviet Union (USSR). Excellent Machine Gunner Badge, 1950s.
The «Excellent Machine Gunner» badge (in Russian: Отличный пулеметчик) was a military distinction established on May 21, 1942, as part of a series of merit badges awarded to enlisted men and non-commissioned officers of the Red Army during World War II.
Version produced in the 1950s.
This badge was awarded to soldiers who demonstrated high accuracy, technical mastery of the weapon, exemplary discipline, and bravery in operating light or heavy machine guns in combat. It served both as individual recognition and as a motivational symbol of military excellence, vital to the Soviet war effort against Nazi Germany.
The badge is made of enameled metal. At the top is a red star with the hammer and sickle, symbol of Soviet communism. In the center, it features a Maxim machine gun on a tripod, facing to the right. At the top of the badge is the Russian inscription: «Отличный пулеметчик», which translates as “Excellent Machine Gunner”.
