Soviet Union (USSR). “Excellent Reconnaissance Scout” Badge, 1943-1945
The “Excellent Reconnaissance Scout” badge (Russian: Отличный разведчик) was instituted on 21 May 1942 as part of a series of proficiency insignia awarded to Red Army privates and NCOs during the Great Patriotic War.

It was bestowed upon reconnaissance personnel who displayed outstanding skill in penetrating enemy lines, gathering and relaying accurate intelligence, leading patrols, expert use of camouflage and stealth, strict discipline, and personal bravery under fire. The badge both recognised individual merit and encouraged professional excellence in a branch vital to Soviet tactical intelligence.
Made of enamelled metal, the badge bears at its top the hammer and sickle. In the center is a PPSH-41 crossed with a Soviet Shashka saber and binoculars underneath.; above the scene appears the inscription «Отличный разведчик» (“Excellent Scout”).
