The Commemorative Medal for the 30th Anniversary of the Soviet Army and Navy (Russian: Юбилейная медаль «30 лет Советской Армии и Флота») was instituted on 22 February 1948 to commemorate the thirtieth anniversary of the founding of the Soviet Army and Soviet Navy.
It was awarded to marshals, generals, admirals, officers, warrant officers, NCOs, soldiers and sailors who were serving on 23 February 1948 in the Soviet Army, the Soviet Navy, and the troops of the Ministry of State Security (MGB) and the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD). It was also awarded to eligible retired military personnel.
It was the first commemorative medal dedicated to the Soviet Armed Forces and inaugurated the series of military anniversary medals later issued in 1958, 1968, 1978, and 1988.
