Soviet campaign medal “For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945” (За победу над Германией в Великой Отечественной войне 1941-1945 гг.), instituted in 1945 and awarded to military personnel and others who participated in the war against Nazi Germany during the Second World War.
This example corresponds to Variant 3, characterized by a round, flat suspension ring forming an integral part of the medal itself. The kolodka, the metal suspension mount from which the medal hangs and to which the ribbon is fitted, is made of aluminium.
Examples of this variant were awarded by the Soviet Military Commissariats (Voenkomat) years after the end of the Second World War. These later awards were intended, among other cases, for veterans who were entitled to the medal but, for various reasons, had not received it during the initial awards.
