Soviet Union USSR. Medal for the Victory over Germany with Award Document, 1945
The Medal for the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945 was established by the Soviet Union following the defeat of Germany to recognize the contribution of military personnel and civilians who participated in the Soviet war effort during the Great Patriotic War.
The medal was awarded to all members of the Red Army, the Soviet Navy, and the troops of the NKVD who served directly on the wartime fronts, as well as to individuals whose work in military districts, logistical services, and support organizations contributed to the final victory.
With more than fifteen million awards issued, it became one of the most widely awarded Soviet decorations of the Second World War.
This example is accompanied by its original award certificate from 1945, issued to officially document the recipient’s entitlement to the decoration.
