Soviet Union USSR. Medal for the Victory over Japan, Variant 3 Voenkomat
Soviet medal «За победу над Японией» (For the Victory over Japan), established by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on 30 September 1945 to reward military personnel and other eligible personnel who took part in operations against Japan in the Far East during 1945. This example corresponds to Variant 3, known as the «Voenkomat» version, a later production distributed through Soviet military commissariats and documented mainly from the 1970s and 1980s. It is characterized by a round suspension loop integrated into the body of the medal, forming part of the medal itself and distinguishing it from earlier variants with different suspension arrangements. The design retains Stalin’s portrait on the obverse and the inscription «ЗА ПОБЕДУ НАД ЯПОНИЕЙ», while the reverse bears «3 СЕНТЯБРЯ 1945» beneath a five-pointed star.
