Soviet Union (USSR). Order «For Service to the Homeland in the Armed Forces of the USSR», 3rd Class
Serial Number: 48926
The Order «For Service to the Homeland in the Armed Forces of the USSR» was established on October 28, 1974, by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet, under the leadership of Leonid Brezhnev. It is the only military order created in the USSR after World War II.
It was awarded to members of the Red Army, Navy, Air Force, Air Defense Forces, Border Troops, and Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) troops in recognition of outstanding service to the homeland.
The decoration consists of an eight-pointed convex star. The vertical and horizontal points are composed of rays, while the diagonal points are smooth and enamelled in light blue. At the center, over an oak leaf wreath, is a five-pointed star. A white enamel ring surrounds this composition, bearing the inscription «ЗА СЛУЖБУ РОДИНЕ В ВС СССР» («For Service to the Homeland in the Armed Forces of the USSR») and the hammer and sickle symbol at the bottom. From behind the ring, two silver wings and an anchor can be seen, representing the air, land, and naval branches.
