Soviet Union USSR. Order of the Red Star manufactured at the Moscow Mint between 1952 and 1957, number 3,377,940. Variant 3.
It has minor repairs in the enamel.
The Order of the Red Star (Орден Красной Звезды) was one of the most important military decorations of the Soviet Union. It was instituted on April 6, 1930, and was awarded both in peacetime and wartime to military personnel, members of the security forces, and, in some cases, entire units for distinguished services in the defense of the USSR.
It was awarded for acts of bravery, leadership in combat, merits in state defense, achievements in military training, and the protection of the Soviet border. The design featured a red five-pointed enamelled star, with a relief figure of a Red Army soldier carrying a rifle, and in the surrounding ring the inscription “Proletarians of all countries, unite.” During the Second World War, it was one of the most widely bestowed decorations.
