Spain / Argentina. Medal of the Spanish Patriotic League of the city of Rosario de Santa Fe, 1896
In 1896 the statutes were drafted establishing the foundation of what would become the Asociación Patriótica Española. This institution emerged with charitable and cultural purposes (as did many Spanish regional societies and mutual aid associations), but especially with a strong patriotic spirit in response to the threat posed at that time by the war between Spain and the United States over the control of Cuba, and by the intention of the Spanish community in Argentina to help in that cause.
