Spain. Artillery Troop Cutlass Saber, model 1802.
It is regulated in the Artillery Ordinance of 1802 as follows: «A saber with a two-pronged blade (…) so that it is not only an offensive weapon but also a type of cutlass or hammer suitable for cutting ropes, branches, and other uses.»
The hilt is made of brass, with a stirrup fore-guard (the fore-guard starts at a right angle to the cross-guard), a cylindrical handle, and ridges. The blade is a scimitar-shaped sword.
The back edge bears the inscription «Fª Ð T O Lº Aº 1802» in reference to the place and year of manufacture «Fábrica de Toledo Año 1802 / Toledo Factory Year 1802».
The overall size is 68 cm and the blade is 54.3 cm.
