The General Inspectorate of the Armed Police was the highest command authority of the Armed Police Corps, established in 1959 to replace the Armed and Traffic Police Corps.
In 1978, the Armed Police was reorganised and renamed the National Police.
The badge incorporates the insignia of a Major General, as command of the General Inspectorate of the Armed Police was entrusted to a Major General of the Spanish Army.
