Spain. Cavalry Soldier’s Uniform from the 1926 Regulations, Spanish Civil War
Uniform consisting of a khaki tunic and trousers, corresponding to the uniform system established by the 1926 Regulations and used during the Spanish Civil War by both the Republican Army and the Nationalist Army. The general khaki uniform was introduced for enlisted personnel in July 1926 and remained in service during the war, with modifications introduced by both sides. The enlisted tunic was characterized by its closed turn-down collar, five front buttons and shoulder straps fastened by a button.
The collar retains two metal insignia of the Cavalry Branch, consisting of two crossed lances with pennants and two crossed sabres. This emblem had already been established in earlier uniform regulations and was retained under the 1926 regulations. During the monarchy it could appear surmounted by the royal crown; subsequently, following the proclamation of the Second Republic, monarchical elements were removed from military uniforms. The tunic retains its 5 front buttons, together with the two pocket buttons and the two shoulder-strap buttons. The trousers are of the breeches type, appropriate to Cavalry uniforms, and retain metal buttons marked “SOLIDE NEUHEIT”, of German manufacture. The uniform is in good condition, with no moth holes.
