Spain. Flag or Embroidered Piece with the National Coat of Arms, 1938-1945
Flag or embroidered piece depicting the Coat of Arms of Spain adopted by the Nationalist side by decree of 2 February 1938. The new coat of arms was inspired by the heraldry of the Catholic Monarchs and featured the Eagle of Saint John as its main element, together with the Pillars of Hercules and the motto “Una, Grande, Libre” (“One, Great, Free”). This model remained in use until the reform of the coat of arms approved in October 1945, which introduced several modifications to its design.
The piece corresponds to the so-called abbreviated model, a simplified version of the 1938 coat of arms which, due to its easier reproduction, quickly became one of its most widely used forms, appearing on numerous official and representative items. Size: 53 × 53 cm.
