Spain. Grand Orient of Spain Lapel or Tie Badge. Second Republic Period.
The Grand Orient of Spain (Gran Oriente Español, GOE) was founded in 1889 by Miguel Morayta Sagrario, through the merger of the Gran Oriente de España and the Gran Oriente Nacional de España, with Morayta becoming its first Grand Master.
During the first decades of the 20th century, it adopted a federal structure organised into Regional Grand Lodges. It experienced considerable expansion in the years preceding the Second Spanish Republic and maintained a degree of rivalry with the Gran Logia Española.
Following the Francoist victory in the Spanish Civil War, Freemasonry was persecuted and the Grand Orient of Spain went into exile, carrying out much of its activity in Mexico.
