Spain. Ifni Sahara Medal. Officer Version. First Version.
The first version is distinguished by having a larger, curved military crown of leadership.
Awarded in 1958.
The Ifni-Sahara Medal was a Spanish decoration created by the Presidential Decree of the Government, dated July 4, 1958, signed by Francisco Franco and Admiral Luis Carrero Blanco, and published in the BOE No. 168, pages 1,263 and 1,264, on July 15, 1958. It was awarded «in satisfaction of the country and the Armies for the result of the military operations conducted in the territories of Spanish West Africa» (Ifni War). Although awards stopped being given a few years later, it wasn’t until 2003 that it was formally abolished by Royal Decree 1040/2003.
