Spain. Individual Military Medal from the Franco period, manufactured by Jordana
Spanish medal manufactured during the Franco era by Jordana. This is the first model and is notable for being constructed in three pieces and for bearing the inscription “AL MÉRITO EN CAMPAÑA” in relief on both the obverse and reverse. The obverse depicts “a matron representing Spain offering a laurel wreath” while the reverse features the Spanish coat of arms with the Eagle of Saint John. It retains its original ribbon.
The Individual Military Medal has been one of Spain’s highest military decorations. Only 1,217 were awarded during the Spanish Civil War (1936–1939), 54 in Russia between 1941 and 1943, and 6 during the Ifni and Sahara conflict of 1958.
