Spain. Medal of the Order of Cisneros, engraved

The Order of Cisneros was created by decree on 8 March 1944, during the dictatorship of General Francisco Franco, to reward distinguished services in politics, particularly within the Movement.
Order of 10 January 1945 (Official State Gazette No. 11, of the 11th), approving the Regulations of the Order of Cisneros created by decree of 8 March 1944.
Article 1. The Order of Cisneros, created by decree of 8 March 1944, shall constitute the decoration for political merit. This distinction may also be awarded to foreign subjects for services and merits rendered in relation to our institutions and for the benefit of the Spanish people.
Article 2. The general emblem of the Order of Cisneros shall consist of a cross, between whose arms will appear bundles of five arrows, and in the centre the Eagle of Saint John, resting upon the yoke of the Catholic Monarchs.
Article 3. The National Chief of the Movement is the Grand Master of the Order, its supreme head, who shall govern it fully, embodying the values and virtues it represents.
Cardinal Francisco Jiménez de Cisneros (Torrelaguna, 1436 – Roa, 1517), a member of the Franciscan Order, was cardinal, Archbishop of Toledo, Primate of Spain and third Grand Inquisitor of Castile. He also governed the Crown of Castile on two occasions due to the incapacity of Queen Joanna of Castile.
