Spain. Philippine Campaign Medal, 1898
Made of bronze, with articulated laurel wreath suspension and replacement ribbon.
Approved by Royal Decree of 26 January 1898.
It was awarded to members of the Philippine Army. Generals, chiefs, officers, NCOs and enlisted men of both the Army and the Navy who had taken part in the campaign in the archipelago were eligible. Recipients had to have remained one month in the theatres of operations and also have taken part in an engagement or have served three months in the theatres of operations. Those wounded in action were also entitled to wear it, and for those repatriated due to illness the required periods were reduced by half.
The theatres of operations, until 23 October, included the provinces of Manila, Bulacan, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Laguna, Cavite and Batangas from 30 August 1896; the Politico-Military Government of Morong from 23 October 1896; and the provinces of Bataan and Zambales from 30 December 1896.
