South Africa. South African socket bayonet model R1 for the FAL Type C.
The grip is stamped with a U inside an M, referring to “Union (of South Africa) Military”, and the serial number «124930». The blade bears the marking «E». Model with a nylon scabbard.
The Vektor R1 was the South African version of the FN FAL battle rifle, recalibrated for the new NATO standard 7.62 x 51 mm cartridge. It was produced under license by Lyttleton Engineering Works and was officially adopted in 1960. By the late 1990s, it had become obsolete.
