Sweden. Swedish M1896 Bayonet for the Swedish Mauser M1896 Rifle
The M1896 bayonet was designed for the Mauser Swedish Model 1896 rifle and was later also issued for use with the M1938 short rifle and the Automatgevär m/42 semi-automatic rifle. Production continued from 1899 until 1964, reflecting the model’s exceptionally long service life within the Swedish Armed Forces.
This example bears the marking “I 12/19 No. 748” on the crossguard, identifying it as weapon no. 748 of the 12th Company, 19th Infantry Regiment.
The scabbard is marked “12/14 No. 109”, indicating weapon no. 109 of the 12th Company, 14th Infantry Regiment.
It also displays several Swedish Royal Crown acceptance marks. The crowned “C” inspection mark denotes manufacture by Carl Gustafs Stads Gevärsfaktori, which began producing this pattern from 1913 onward.
