Sweden. Swedish Model 1896 bayonet. With non-commissioned officer’s strap.
Knife bayonet for the 6.5 mm Swedish Mauser rifle m/1896. The m/1896 bayonet was also used with the m/1938 short rifle and the Ljungmann AG42b semi-automatic rifle.
According to Scandinavian bayonet collector and researcher Per Holmback, M1896 bayonets were produced by:
—Eskilstuna Jernmanufactur AB (1899–1912)
—Carl Gustaf Stad (1913–?)
—Erik Anton Berg AB (year unknown)
Eskilstuna produced the first 280,000 units. The three manufacturers produced a total of approximately 665,000 units.
Early examples featured a flat spring lock. This was replaced by a conical spring lock, by far the most common type today.
This example was manufactured by Eskilstuna Jernmanufakur AB (Eskilstuna Iron Manufacturing, Inc.). The scabbard was manufactured by Erik Anton Berg (EAB) in Eskilstuna.
The unit marking on the crosspiece identifies the bayonet as belonging to Rifleman No. 360, 5th Company, 21st Infantry Regiment.
