Third Reich Germany. Luftwaffe Paratrooper Badge, G.H. Osang
Luftwaffe Paratrooper Badge (Fallschirmschützenabzeichen), manufactured by G.H. Osang of Dresden. Instituted on 5 November 1936, it was awarded to personnel who successfully completed military parachutist training. The badge features a diving eagle clutching a swastika, superimposed on an oval wreath of oak and laurel leaves. Made of zinc, the eagle retains much of its original gilding. The reverse bears the maker’s mark “G.H. Osang Dresden”, characteristic of this manufacturer’s wartime production. The use of zinc corresponds to the middle and later stages of the war, when shortages of metals led manufacturers to replace materials used in earlier production.
