Third Reich Germany. M40 German Helmet with Three-Colour Camouflage
German M40 steel helmet from the Second World War, featuring textured camouflage in three colours: reddish brown, beige and dark green. This type of scheme is commonly referred to as “Normandy camouflage”, although the green on this example is dark rather than the lighter shade seen on some variants. In areas where the camouflage paint has chipped away, the helmet’s original paint layer is visible.
The interior retains an M31 liner with a steel band, a rounded chinstrap ring and dark brown leather. The steel bears the marking “ET62”, identifying Eisenhüttenwerke Thale, a manufacturer based in Thale, in Germany’s Harz region. The serial number is difficult to discern.
