Third Reich Germany. SS-Sturmmann Tropical Uniform Sleeve Insignia
Sleeve insignia consisting of a black cloth triangle with a V-shaped chevron embroidered in gold, corresponding to the rank of SS-Sturmmann in the Waffen-SS for tropical uniforms. SS-Sturmmann was an enlisted rank approximately equivalent to a corporal.
Waffen-SS sleeve rank insignia initially used silver thread, but less conspicuous variants were subsequently introduced. On tropical uniforms, they were manufactured using matte gold-coloured thread, suited to the colour and characteristics of these garments. Although sleeve rank insignia were officially discontinued in January 1942, they continued to be worn on many uniforms until the end of the war.
