Czechoslovakia. VZ-24 Bayonet. Bayonet knife for the Mauser VZ 24 rifle, 8 mm. This bayonet was also used with the VZ-23 rifle.
They were used by the Czechoslovak Army and were widely exported before and after World War II. Germany extensively used the modified VZ-24 bayonets during World War II.
They were used during the Spanish Civil War, primarily by the Popular Army of the Republic.
The VZ-24 bayonets were manufactured by Československá zbrojovka a.s., Brno. This example is typical of pre-war production.
The VZ-24 rifle and bayonet were the result of input from the Czechoslovak cavalry forces, who felt that the VZ-23 rifle and bayonet were unsuitable for cavalry use. They requested modifications for the rifle and a 400 mm caliber… The blade of the VZ-23 bayonet was shortened by 100 mm, which made the VZ-24 bayonet, with its 300 mm blade, the standard bayonet for Czechoslovak forces.
Czechoslovak army bayonets had an inverted blade profile, while export bayonets can be found with either inverted or conventional blade profiles.
Total length: 44.50 cm.
Blade length: 29.5 cm.
