Soviet Union (USSR). Excellent Signal Corps Badge, 1943–1945.
The «Excellent Signal Corps» badge (in Russian: Отличный связист) was a military distinction established on May 21, 1942, as part of a series of merit badges awarded to enlisted men and non-commissioned officers of the Red Army during World War II.
Version manufactured between 1943 and 1945.
This badge was awarded to soldiers of the military communications units (signal corps) who demonstrated exceptional technical skill, operational efficiency, quick restoration of communication lines, discipline, and courage under enemy fire. It served both as personal recognition and as a motivator for professional excellence in a critical support role for Soviet command and control operations.
The badge is made of enameled metal. At the top is a red star with the hammer and sickle, symbolizing Soviet communism. The center features symbolic elements of the signal corps: a lightning bolt striking through red star with wings. At the top of the badge is the Russian inscription: «Отличный связист», which translates as “Excellent Signal Corps”.
