Soviet Union USSR. Order of the Patriotic War with order book, 1st Class, 1985 Model
The Order of the Patriotic War was one of the most prestigious decorations of the Soviet Union. Established in 1942 during the Great Patriotic War, it was awarded for bravery, leadership, and distinguished military service against the enemy.
In 1985, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of victory over Germany, the Soviet government decided that all surviving war veterans would receive either the First Class or Second Class Order of the Patriotic War.
This example is a First Class Order of the Patriotic War, 1985 issue. The reverse still retains much of its original gilt finish and bears the serial number 2439340.
The decoration is accompanied by its original Order Book (Ordenskaya Knizhka) or award certificate, the official document confirming the recipient’s entitlement to the award. The certificate bears the signature of T. N. Menteshashvili, Secretary of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, together with the official seal of the Supreme Soviet.
Original Soviet decoration awarded to a veteran of the Second World War.
