United Nations Korea Medal, featuring a clasp with the inscription «Korea», issued for service during the Korean War (1950–1953).
This was the first medal ever created by the United Nations: the United Nations Service Medal, also known as the United Nations Medal for Service in Korea. It was awarded by the UN to all countries that supported South Korea during the conflict.
The medal is circular and made of bronze. The obverse displays the emblem of the United Nations, while the reverse bears the inscription: «For service in defense of the principles of the Charter of the United Nations».
It is worn suspended from a ribbon with alternating stripes of light blue (the UN’s official color) and white, which is the dominant color of the South Korean flag.
The clasp on the ribbon features the word «Korea».
