United States. CVC T56-6 Tank Crew Helmet without Headset, Vietnam War
The CVC T56-6 (Combat Vehicle Crewman) helmet was developed as protective headgear for armored vehicle crews of the United States Army. It was widely used during the Vietnam War by the crews of tanks, armored personnel carriers, and other combat vehicles.
This model features a laminated fiberglass shell covered in olive drab fabric and an internal suspension and padding system designed to protect crew members from impacts inside armored vehicles. It was originally equipped with an integrated headset and microphone to enable intercom communications between crew members; however, this example is preserved without the headset.
It has the front-facing paint scheme of Staff Sergeant. In the U.S. armed forces, the rank E-6 corresponds to a non-commissioned officer or enlisted officer, who typically acts as a direct supervisor and technical expert.
