The Air Force Communications Service (AFCS) was a historical major command of the United States Air Force, responsible for providing global air traffic control and telecommunications services. Established in 1961 and derived from previous Army units, it was a crucial command for maintaining and operating global communications networks. In 1979, it was redesignated as the Air Force Communications Command (AFCC), changing its status from a major command to a field operating agency, before being redesignated again.
