United States. WW2 NATOUSA Service Jacket, 1940
Service jacket of the United States Army dated 1940.
The sleeves display the rank insignia of Private First Class (PFC).
On the left sleeve is the shoulder patch of NATOUSA (North African Theater of Operations, United States Army). NATOUSA was the U.S. Army formation responsible for supervising all American Army forces fighting in North Africa and later in Italy during the Second World War.
On the same sleeve appears one Overseas Service Bar, indicating six months of overseas service in a wartime theater.
On the right sleeve is the Meritorious Unit Commendation patch (laurel wreath), awarded to units for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services for at least six months during military operations. Below it is the badge of Army Communication Specialist (AAF).
The collar bears U.S. Army and Infantry branch insignia discs.
The jacket retains its original manufacturer’s label, “SCOTCH WOOLEN MILLS”, under Regulation Spec. No. 8-31D, dated October 12, 1940.
