USSR. Soviet Union. “To the Stars” statuette from the Soviet Space Programme.
This Soviet-era statuette, known as “To the Stars” (К звёздам) or “Conquerors of Space”, was manufactured by the Nimor (Нимор) factory in the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic.
It depicts an athletic male figure rising from the Earth and holding a rocket towards the sky, symbolising the Soviet conquest of space and the era of the USSR’s great space achievements, such as Yuri Gagarin’s historic flight.
Cast in bronze.
The design was created by Russian sculptor Grigori Postnikov in 1957.
The interior bears the manufacturer’s mark “Nimor” and the original period price: 9 roubles and 90 kopecks.
Height: 24 cm.
It is one of the less common Socialist Realist figures produced in bronze, as many examples of this type were usually manufactured in silumin.
