“300 лет ВОССОЕДИНЕНИЯ УКРАИНЫ С РОССИЕЙ”
(“300 Years of the Reunification of Ukraine with Russia”).
The Soviet commemoration marked the 300th anniversary of the Pereiaslav Rada (1654), when the Cossack Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky and part of the Cossack Host swore allegiance to Tsar Alexis I of Russia. Official Soviet propaganda portrayed this event as the “reunification of Ukraine with Russia.”
