The HGU-26/P helmet dates from January 14, 1970, and is based on the HGU-22/P helmet shell. There is no military specification that clearly defines what exactly an HGU-26/P includes, but until the appearance of the single-visor HGU-26/P, both USAF and manufacturer information consistently described the HGU-26/P as an HGU-22/P shell with a visor. It was initially used during the Vietnam War.
Later, it was used by other NATO forces.
