Awarded to soldiers, sailors, sergeants, and non-commissioned officers of the KGB Border Troops, or to other soldiers urgently recruited to assist the Border Troops, for exemplary performance of their duties in protecting the state border of the USSR, for their skillful actions in apprehending border violators, for demonstrating courage, perseverance, endurance, excellent performance in political and combat training, and for their military discipline.
