The Project 949A “Antey” submarines, known to NATO as the Oscar II class, were large Soviet nuclear-powered cruise-missile submarines designed primarily to attack aircraft carriers and their battle groups.
Approximately 155 metres long and displacing around 24,000 tonnes submerged, they were powered by two nuclear reactors and primarily armed with 24 P-700 Granit anti-ship missiles, as well as torpedoes.
Following the dissolution of the Soviet Union, several units continued in service with the Russian Navy.
