Vietnam. Commemorative Medal of the Heroic 208th Artillery Regiment
Commemorative medal dedicated to the Trung đoàn Pháo binh 208 (Vietnamese: “208th Artillery Regiment”), a unit of the People’s Army of Vietnam. The obverse features an artillery piece alongside the Vietnamese flag, surrounded by the inscription “TRUNG ĐOÀN PHÁO BINH 208 ANH HÙNG”, meaning “Heroic 208th Artillery Regiment.”
The 208th Artillery Regiment was incorporated into the organizational structure of Bộ Tư lệnh Pháo binh 351 and participated in the Indochina and Vietnam wars. During the war against South Vietnam and the United States, elements of the regiment were deployed in the south and took part in artillery-support operations for ground forces. References document its participation in campaigns including the 1968 Tet Offensive, the Route 9–Southern Laos campaign of 1971, operations in 1972 and the final campaign of 1975.
The designation “Anh hùng” (“Heroic”) forms part of the unit’s historical tradition and official recognition. The piece belongs to the category of commemorative medals dedicated to Vietnamese military units and the preservation of their historical traditions.
