Vietnam. “Determined-to-Win Military Flag” Medal
The “Determined-to-Win Military Flag” Medal (Huy chương Quân kỳ Quyết thắng) is a state decoration of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam primarily awarded in recognition of long service in the People’s Army of Vietnam. It was established by Resolution No. 572-NQ/HĐNN7 on 27 October 1984, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the foundation of the People’s Army of Vietnam.
The original regulations provided for its award to officers, professional military personnel and defence employees who had served in the Army for 25 years or more. This included personnel who had subsequently transferred to other employment, retired, died, or been recognized as martyrs. In certain cases, it could also be awarded to foreign military personnel or defence workers for significant contributions to the development of the People’s Army of Vietnam or to military cooperation and solidarity. The award was decided by the Chairman of the Council of Ministers.
The medal features a red flag bearing a yellow star against a blue enamel background, with the inscription QUÂN KỲ QUYẾT THẮNG, literally “Determined-to-Win Military Flag”. It is therefore a military long-service and service decoration established after the Vietnam War, although many of its earliest recipients had served during the Indochina and Vietnam Wars.
