The badge, known as “Chiến sĩ Điện Biên Phủ” (“Soldier of Dien Bien Phu”), was created during the 1954 Dien Bien Phu Campaign as a recognition for military personnel who took part in the battle. Its circular design depicts a Vietnamese soldier advancing into combat, an anti-aircraft gun, the surrounding mountains and the red flag with a golden star, together with the inscriptions “Quyết chiến, quyết thắng” (“Determined to fight, determined to win”), “Xuân 1954” (“Spring 1954”) and “Chiến sĩ Điện Biên Phủ”. The badge was awarded by the Government and Hồ Chí Minh to personnel who participated in the campaign, fought from 13 March to 7 May 1954.
This model is the one granted in the post-war period for veterans and organizers of commemorative events of the battle.
